Sugar City Marine began operations in August 1986, with only two staff, Ray Leigh and Warren Gray. It may have been a new name on the scene at the time, but the faces behind it were familiar.
The story of Sugar City Marine really started back in 1965, when Ray And Warren both started at Fields Pty. Ltd. Ray as an apprentice motor mechanic and Warren as an apprentice outboard mechanic. They both completed their apprenticeships, with Ray swapping into the marine workshop at the end of his apprenticeship. Within 10 years Ray became the manager of Fields Marine, and Warren was foreman of the Marine Workshop.
Another 11 years went by, during which Fields Marine went from strength to strength. 1985 was a turning year for Fields, and the company along with Michelmores, was sold to a West Australian firm. This firm proceeded to sell all the assets of both companies. When this happened Ray and Warren went into business together, and bought out Fields Marine. So started Sugar City Marine. |

(Ray and Warren have been involved with Quintrex and Mercury since they first stepped into the work force back in 1965, and have been associated with these two companies longer than anyone else in Australia.) Sugar City Marine has regularly won awards for being amongst the high achievers in Mercury and Quintrex sales. Winner of Quintrex dealer of the year awards, retail finance dealer of the year and ranking as a Platinum Plus Mercury Dealer 8 years running, is part of the reason, most boats you see in the creeks and offshore these days are Quintrex powered by Mercury.
With the diverse range of Quintrex boats available, a comprehensive range from small to large is carried. More than 50 boats are carried in stock, so customers can see exactly what they want, rather than off a brochure.
